Mindfulness Business Practices

Mindfulness Business Practices

In our lives, mindfulness is the gradual art of integrating awareness of the moment and allowing personal acceptance for our emotions and struggles. In business, mindfulness impacts how leadership treats and inspires employees, how colleagues deal with collaboration and problem solving, and how products and services are created and distributed. At Regenrus, our foundational focus on mindfulness leads us to have a core team that creates authentically and is imbued with mutual support, a community of entrepreneurs that are tied by higher values and shared purpose, and a marketplace of products that are in alignment with the best possible production practices.

Mindful Team

“You cannot control the results, only your actions.” – Allan Lokos

For a business to live its values, it has to start with the people doing the work. Therefore our practice of mindfulness begins with the corporate team at Regenrus. Whether it's in a conference call, executing a project, communicating about a problem or sticky question, or providing feedback, we see opportunities to enact mindfulness.

What does it look like? First, respect and mutual support. To be an effective and mindful team, we default to a strong measure of being amicable and compassionate. Whenever there is a change that needs to be made to accomplish something, we offer solutions instead of just input. We offer guidance instead of just feedback. We offer to give our hand to the cause of our partners instead of just making a recommendation. There is a saying that culture stems from the top, and our executive leaders are deeply helpful in all of these ways, which inspires the entire team to walk in the same path.

“The essence of bravery is being without self-deception.” – Pema Chödrön

It also means questioning ourselves. The quote above from renowned buddhist nun and prolific author speaks to this. At Regenrus, we are constantly asking the hard questions. Are we sourcing product ingredients in the most ethical and socially impactful way possible? Are we holding to our internal plans, no matter how lofty they may be? Are we faithfully living the messages of planetary evolution and good intention that we reflect to the public? If the answer ever wavers, we are ready to look inward. Why aren’t we fulfilling our initial design? What light can we shine into our processes and values to get us on the right track? How can we do better next time, and how can we increase the impact and value of our work even when it comes out just as desired? If mindfulness is paying attention to our feelings, thoughts, and actions, than in business mindfulness must become a willingness to look at all the processes and behaviors of an organization and asking the question: how can we do better?

Mindful Marketplace

"There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way." - Thich Nhat Hanh

Our marketplace is the arena in which all of our work on values, authenticity, impact, and mindfulness come together to accomplish the goal of Regenrus: help regenerate the body and the world.

Why do we call our marketplace mindful? First, our products are manufactured to the highest degree of quality with ingredients sourced from farmers and processors who are making every effort to regenerate the vitality and resiliency of the land and resources they draw upon. By sourcing our ingredients and manufacturing our products in this way, we are mindful to every aspect of how our products will impact people and the planet.

But our attention and willingness to look directly at our work and how it impacts the world doesn’t stop there. Our impact model is built to support regenerative projects that help lift up animals, the environment, and people in need. To extend compassion, to give kindness, to use your resources to create good, these are all both results and proponents for mindful living. When we live mindfully, we live in alignment with the values we hold dear. At Regenrus, we want every single person involved in our social impact community, to include our internal team, affiliates, partners, suppliers and consumer of our products, to be able to rest easy that their participation in this good work at any level is in line with higher values. It all comes together around our Mindful Marketplace.

Closing Thoughts: Mindful Evolution

Mindfulness is sometimes wrongly thought of as something that only happens on the meditation cushion.

Sure, introspection is important. But the real substance of mindfulness is in the living of life. It's in having the presence to look at your decisions, actions, words, and be honest with yourself about how you are treating the world. It's in accepting yourself just as you are, and it's about looking in the mirror with unclouded eyes. At Regenrus, we have just embarked on this incredible journey to bring our Mindful Marketplace to reality. We know that there will always be more work to do, and are committed to growing and developing our mindfulness practices both internally with our team and in how we do business.

As a final thought, we offer you this quote from Jon Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness teacher and founder/creator of MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction). We hope it inspires you to walk through your day in a way that regenerates heart and soul:

“The best way to capture moments is to pay attention. This is how we cultivate mindfulness. Mindfulness means being awake. It means knowing what you are doing.” ~Jon Kabat-Zinn
